Attractive Leaders Attract Better Talent And More Customers

One of the hard parts of being in business is getting market penetration. Selling business to business is challenging as it is, but standing out from all the other companies in your space can feel like something impossible to achieve.

It often reminds me of the busy night markets in south-east Asia. As you walk down the market stalls, each vendor is shouting in your ear, offering you deals or worse, follows you for a short time to get your attention. There are hundreds of vendors all selling the same items, all competing.

Selling in a B2B space can be just like that... competitive.

But there is an easier way to gain traction.

Think of it as more than just trying to attract and convert customers. It's about being an attractive leader.

It is about influencing and attracting many different types of stakeholders in your ecosystem. You need to sell the business, the brand and yourself as the leader.

Getting this right provides massive growth for your business.

Think of some of the young and emergent leaders of New Zealand. Jamie Beaten from Crimson Consulting who raised more than 60M USD in capital and he's just 25 years young. Jake Miller from Unfiltered who created a significant following around his brand. Lisa King from Eat My Lunch, Cecilia Robinson, who started My Foodbag. I can name many more.

What makes these leaders different is their ability to attract the right stakeholders like partners, investors and talent.

Business partners are one of your most significant assets and biggest success factors in your industry. You, as the leader of your company, need to attract the right partners to your business. It doesn't only enable you to provide more value to your customers through an open ecosystem but also increases your network of people whom you can trust.

The other type of people that you want to attract in your business is investors. Whether you're seeking capital or not.

You want to make sure that you can attract the right type of investors in case you ever need them. These could come in the form of bankers, where you want to have a good, healthy relationship with your company bank but also private equity.

And lastly, which probably should be first is that of the talent inside your business.

Your business will not be able to grow without the right talent.

You, as the leader, need to attract the right type of people into your organisation. Your organisation's growth is directly dependent on the skill of your team.

The better your team, the better your organisation.

A great team will implement the business systems you develop and take more of your work off of your shoulders.

If you want to grow sustainably and go far, find the right co-founders, advisors, investors, coaches, partners and the right team that will help you realise your vision.

Great founders don't just have great ideas and technical vision but are also able to attract the right people around them. As you transition from founder to a leader of your company, you need to develop and hone your non-technical skills.

Learn to attract the right talent, high-value customers, partners and future investors into your business.
